Ferrer Struggles at Olympics

The Spanish pair of David Ferrer and Feliciano Lopez has been defeated in the Bronze medal match of the men’s tennis doubles competition of London Olympics by the French duo of Richard Gasquet and Julien Benneteau. The French pair won the match in the straight sets by 7-6(4), 6-2.

The 2012 Olympics proved to be quite disappointing for Ferrer. His performance was not up to the mark in the singles competition and he was defeated in the third round by Kei Nishikori of Japan. In the doubles competition, his fans were expecting him to win a medal, but, he disappointed his fans in the doubles competition as well.

In the first set, both the pairs failed to hold even a single service. After the 12 games, the scores were tied at 6-6 and the first set went into the tie breaker. Fans who enjoy betting at Bet Victor were able to back Ferrer and his team-mate at evens – the match was that close! Unfortunatley, Gasquet-Benneteau absolutely nailed the tie breaker and won the first set by 7-6. After winning the first set in tie breaker, the French pair got a lot of confidence and they didn’t give Ferrer-Lopez any opportunity to make a comeback in the second set.

The French pair broke the service of Ferrer-Lopez thrice in the second set and took a profound lead of 5-1. However, the Spanish duo got a breakthrough in the sixth game to make the score 5-2, but, that was not enough to prevent Gasquet-Benneteau from winning the match. The French pair got a breakthrough in the next game to win the second set by 6-2.

After the match, Julien Benneteau told BetVictor that he still can’t believe that he has won a medal in the Olympics. He would never forget this day in his life. On the other hand, Ferrer looked gutted after losing the match. He said that the first set was a bit tight, but, in the second set, the French pair played amazing tennis and it was very hard to stop them.
